Soapy water to remove splinters

Required material

  • Tweezers
  • Disinfectant (e.g. 70% ethanol)
  • 1 bowl of soapy water
  • Magnifying glass, if necessary

How to use: first, wash the hands thoroughly and disinfect the tweezers. Use the tweezers to carefully remove the splinter from the skin. If the splinter is difficult to remove, the affected body part can be soaked in lukewarm, soapy water for approx. 10 minutes. Then try to remove the splinter again. The skin should be disinfected afterwards.

Please note: if the splinter is embedded very deep under the skin or is quite large, a doctor should be consulted.

Soapy water can have the following effects:

  • The skin is softened.
  • It is easier to remove the splinter.
