Application: The injured body part can be cooled every 2 to 3 hours for 15 to 20 minutes at a time. It should not be cooled for more than 48 hours.
The ice pack should not be left on the skin for a long time and never directly on the skin. This can lead to cold damage. It is always best to place a cloth between the skin and the ice pack.
