Everything you need to know about the corona vaccination

Vaccinations against the coronavirus began throughout Switzerland at the start of 2021. You can find all the key information here.

Vaccination is free for people at especially high risk

Would you like to get vaccinated against the coronavirus? You can find out when and where that will be possible from the authorities in the canton where you live. Visit the relevant cantonal website to find out more.

Everyone aged 16 or over who is at especially high risk is advised by the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) and the Federal Vaccination Commission (EKIF) to get a single dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 in autumn/winter 2023/24. There is no recommendation for anyone else to get a COVID-19 vaccination as people without risk factors are unlikely to develop a serious case of the disease.

Vaccination is free for persons in the recommended category; there is no deductible or retention fee.

Who is considered as especially high risk?

  • Persons aged 65 and over
  • Persons aged 16 and over with trisomy 21
  • Persons aged 16 and over with certain forms of the following chronic medical conditions:
    • High blood pressure
    • Cardiovascular diseases
    • Diabetes
    • Pulmonary and respiratory diseases
    • Conditions and therapies that weaken the immune system
    • Cancer
    • Obesity (BMI ≥ 35 kg/m2)
    • Renal insufficiency
    • Liver cirrhosis

Vaccination is also free of charge for pregnant women if their doctor recommends they get vaccinated.

Good to know: Insured persons who do not fall into the recommended category but would still like to get vaccinated may be able to claim a share of the costs of protective vaccinations under certain supplementary insurance plans. We are unable to cover any costs under basic insurance.
