In the case of basic insurance, your cover commences from the date on which the insurance begins – usually 1 January.
In the case of supplementary insurance, there is often a qualifying period. You can only start drawing benefits once a certain waiting period has elapsed, e.g. for dental damage under Dental Insurance or for pregnancy under Hospitalisation Insurance.
Not every health insurer accepts notice of cancellation by email because your signature is important. Send the notice of cancellation to your health insurer in plenty of time and ask for confirmation of receipt. The safest way to send the cancellation letter is by registered post. The cancellation deadline is the last working day of November. If cancelling digitally or by phone, you must do so within opening hours. If giving notice by post, it’s the date of receipt that counts, not the postmark.
